The Roxbury Chorale, under the direction of Ms. Krista Sweer, enters its 21st year after another very successful season in 2017-2018. The Chorale is an auditioned curricular ensemble, and its 75 students meet in one of two class sections as a five-credit curricular course.
Members of the Chorale gain entry to the group through the Spring place- ment auditions. As with the other select groups, members of the Chorale will be chosen based upon their musical audition, including tone quality, intona- tion, musicianship, ability to hold parts independently, preparation, and tonal memory, as well as their attitude, commitment, and dependability.
As a select curricular choir at Roxbury, the Chorale will provide singers with the opportunity to learn and perform challenging traditional and con- temporary choral works. A member of the Chorale is expected to give the extra time necessary to help the group become an outstanding musical ensemble. As an auditioned group, the Chorale is a traveling choir, and its members will learn repertoire to perform at festivals and competitions in addition to the three major choir events (Winter Concert, the Roxbury Invitational, and the Spring Masterworks Concert).
Last spring, the Roxbury Chorale received third place Mixed Choir AA with a Gold rating at the WorldStrides OnStage Music Festival in Washington, D.C. In 2017, the group received first place Mixed Choir A with a Superior rating at the Dorney Park Music in the Parks Festival. In previous years, Roxbury Chorale was named first place in its division at the Williamsburg/VA Beach Music Festival, the Boston Heritage Music Festival, Fiesta-val in Williamsburg, VA, Music in the Parks Festival at Great Adventure and Dorney Park, Music in the Parks in Richmond, VA, the New England Music Festival, and the Hershey Park Festival.
