Region Choir takes place during January and February and all students in grades 9-12 are eligible to audition after approval from Roxbury choir directors. The best singers from North Jersey are chosen to participate in this highly select choir.
All-State Chorus is the most selective choir in the state. The singers, regarded as the best high school singers in New Jersey, are chosen by audition in April for rehearsals and performances in the fall of the following school year. Roxbury can send the 30 best-prepared students to audition for this group, and all students auditioning must be recommended by the Roxbury choir directors.
The ACDA Honors Chorus is made up of the country’s top singers, chosen by an extensive audition. The Chorus alternates a regional and national structure, with members chosen from the Eastern Division of the US one year and the entire nation the following year. The highly prestigious ACDA Honors Chori performs in a chosen city each February or March.
The Roxbury Musical is a very worthwhile vocal opportunity for Roxbury singers, especially those with an interest in musical theatre, dance, or drama. The show is a combined effort of the music, drama, and dance programs. Students who take advantage of this option will be involved with the show from mid-December through the end of February with after-school and occasional evening rehearsals. Auditions for the musical are held in November.
Broadway Night and Vocal Recital are two evenings that provide opportunities for solo performances by choirs members. Broadway Night is held in October and features solo and small group performances of Broadway literature. The Vocal Recital is held at the end of May and features solo and duet performances in classical, folk, spiritual, and operatic literature.
